Melbourne metal wizards, ALARUM, came through wodonga a few weeks back and shredded our faces off at omaillie's pub.. i use to listen to them years ago, so it was a real surprise when i saw the flyer. apparently they contacted the venue to play a show, which is bloody awesome!

speaking of fuel magazine, issue number 6 is about to drop! and with the release comes the launch party, which will also launch the vultures book. can not wait for both! yours truly also gets a full feature article, Luke, you are a good man!!!

for bmx riders and anyone after a bloody good time, this event kicks off the year in a big way. jamuary is in its second year, and from the skate park upgrades late last year, it should be a wild day. cant give enough props to Andre regli in organising such an event....

X MAG is a free publication that i shoot a bunch of photos for and issue number 4 just dropped. this issue means alot to me and i assume to alot of other people as there are 3 tribute pages to 3 individuals who passed away late last year. i still find it hard to believe...also, THISLIFE.COM should be THSLFE.COM

the first hot rod event on the calender is the custom nationals in Phillip island. my good friend i were lucky enough to head down for four days of beach and customs!. it was also my first decent trip in my xp falcon delux.....the beast drove beautifully!

all prints taken on an iphone4. alot of people hate on phone cameras, and i too find it amusing that people dedicate blogs just to camera phone images. however, i love photography, and i try to take my cameras everywhere i go, sometimes though i seem to forget them.....iphone4 comes to the rescue!

BELOW-A few months back a small group of us ventured off for a Sunday day trip to the annual "chopped festival" just outside of castlemane. for anyone into customs, bikes, hot rods, or rockabilly, this event is a MUST. it is done right with zero bullshit. the other unique thing about this event is the rules..which creates a weekend that is as close to what is used to be like in the pre 1965 custom culture

RULES OF ENTRY FOR VEHICLES

Pre 1965 traditional style rods and customs only
No billet wheels or accessories
No I.F.S on fenderless cards
Customs must be lowered and have a wheel alteration
1960s and earlier mag wheels only
Race cars welcome
NO VWs
Volksrods and era correct VW drag cars are welcome
Traditional style American and British choppers and bobbers welcome
Cars wishing to drag must meet above criteria also

James Wade, owner/creator, has just finished building his new website, and he needed updated images for the team pages. good friend Tenna and i cruised the streets for a week or so. meeting up, grabbing a coffee then just rolling around. i don't really ride much anymore, but the love and lust is just as strong as when i was 16. rolling the streets with Matt was what bmx is to me. you don't need 30stair bar spins, or double back flips to have fun. after all, we ride kids bikes right?

for most of the set i had 2 flashes. I'm really beginning to dislike using flash at shows, i guess this depends on venue and lighting at hand. anyway, i slightly changed my post processing for this bunch of photos. all i changed up was the warmth of the photo and cut back on the B&W. i actually really like the look for some reason. shot using 5d+135mmf2L

bright hot rod run has been and gone for another year. damn fine weekend, even with the pre expectations of a crazy amount of police, it was perfect. alot of people this year, which got me thinking alot of rodders left they're cars at home......ah well. still rocked! more photos soon, once i have sorted them out more.

the photos below are from the weekend just gone. tenna and myself had 2 days to shoot some photos for a web ad to launch DISHONOURS knew t-shirt and new era cap. both look really nice, and the caps are cream!

some of these were used and some werent. the photos were basically covered in an afternoon, which isnt bad effort considering we had work commitments and the mother nature to contend with. i tip my hat to mathew(the rider). his motivation made this project a piece of piss. and to james wade for asking me to cover the camera side of things and for also putting my photo on a shirt! THANKS DUDE.

photos were shot using my 50mm 1.4 and my new 135mm f2 L series. the client was after wide open aperture shots and slightly desaturated.

(this is the one photo where i couldnt show the rider the replay on my camera. i was extremely pissed off. this photo does not do the "trick" justice at all. mathew threaded the needle and hopped over the rail to the footpath below. in my eyes the most boss stunt to happen in our town. good work son)

simon, of G.E, dedicated his bands set to a very close friend of his, and fellow riding friend of alot of people. i received a little blood nose in the first song, then shot the rest. a very goodnight was had considering the circumstances

last friday, retro put a show on, and all 3 bands dedicated they're sets to another friend who we lost wednesday night. those photos will be up next week. i tip my hat to all who played.

lack of updates. to make up for it. this is huge. bmx and music. go hand in hand...

below: house v's hurricane tour with confession. the push committee kindly asked me to shoot the show. pretty stoked on how these came out which is rare. shot using my niffty fifty(canon50mm f1.4 lens) and tried to mix it up alot with flash and ambient images. flash shots were at iso 800. ambient shots were at iso 3200. flash either side of the stage.

the photo uploader for blogspot added the photos out of order...bit of a pain. enjoy!

just like the last show, i set up a flash behind the drummer, and this time, another flash front of stage in the left. both on 1/4 power. rotated between ambient and flash light.

There are some people who spend a lot of time arguing the finer technical points of the latest and greatest lenses and digital camera bodies with strangers on internet forums. It is important to keep in mind that the only camera or lens these people believe is worth shooting is the one that is rumored to be released next year.

Mr. Yamuchi shoots black and white film with manual focus Nikons and wears the leather covering down through to the chassis of his camera. Photographically the 35mm f2.8 you see here is as basic as dirt on a farm

Some people use $10,000 worth of camera and lenses and computers to shoot HDR snaps of an old barn which they toss on Flickr. (shrunk to 500 pixels across, of course).

Mr. Yamauchi has published 10 books worth of his street photography and consistently exhibits his own prints in solo exhibitions in Tokyo.
Mr. Yamauchi is a photographer.

good friend of mine, morgan, is an apprentice hotrod builder and this is his teenage project. he organised a casual meet with some other truckers from around our area and i tagged along for something different and shoot photos of course. i have never been into mini trucks. but i do appreciate the work and quality of craftsmanship that goes into them.

another close friend of mine is restoring a 62 lincoln conti. after many years this was the first real start to the project getting started-driving to the engine re-builder. i'll be shooting this project over the months and years ahead. documenting every major step along the way. thats what a cameras for right?

(i have said this before too. what ever happened to thought out car designs?)
